Ref. CA8858
A Halley's Comet rose-cut diamond brooch. These brooches were named after the English astronomer Edmond Halley who predicted in 1705 the return of this comet in 1758 and approximately every 76 years thereafter, which duly happened although by this time Halley himself had died and the comet was named in his honour. Many brooches were subsequently made in a burst of comet mania. Set in 18ct gold and silver. Circa 1760-80
Measurements: 2.5cm x 1.3cm
