Edwardian scarab beetle and rose diamond ring set in platinum and 18ct gold. This is a very unusual ring, scarabs became very popular in the nineteenth century after Napoleon's Egyptian campaign and this spread from France to the rest of Europe with a huge fascination with everything Egyptian. There was continued exploration of the area and tombs throughout the nineteenth century culminating with the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb by Harold Carter in 1922. The scarab motif is seen as a potent protective talisman. This ring has a pretty engraved bezel typical of rings of the period. Circa 1910
